China’s carbon fiber production capacity accounts for around 50% of the global total. However, prices of general-grade products once plummeted by nearly 50%, slashing the industry’s average profit margin to a mere 330 yuan per tonne. The real opportunities lie in high-end segments. Composite materials will account for over 50% of the C929 airliner’s structure and more than 70% of eVTOL airframes. For commercial aerospace satellites, every kilogram of weight reduction cuts launch costs by approximately $20,000. In 2026, the world’s first 100-ton mass production line for T1200-grade carbon fiber will be put into operation in China, catering to lightweighting demands for reusable rockets and next-generation eVTOLs.

At the same time, the U.S. Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) and Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry have imposed export controls on T1000-grade and higher carbon fiber products to China. Independent and controllable supply of domestic high-end carbon fiber has become a national strategic priority.
